deity of rice fields and harvests

If you want to have fun in the area

When walking in the countryside, one sometimes comes across simple stone statues with a handmade feel. These are "tanokansas" found in the southern part of Miyazaki Prefecture and the Satsuma region. The god of rice fields, who literally brings good harvests, has been worshipped by local people since the Edo period (1603-1868). The deity is classified by its shape into priestly, Jizo, natural stone, and farmer's types, but the farmer's type is most commonly seen in Ebino. The humorous expression on their faces as they hold a rice scoop in their hands is heartwarming. Not only those enshrined in shrines, but also some of them are left bare on the roadside, but all of them are neatly surrounded and flowers offered to them never cease. The fact that they are still loved by the people is evident.
