Roadside Station Harajiri Waterfall

Index
A brave waterfall that suddenly appears in the countryside is right in front of you.
In spring, the surrounding area becomes a field of tulips.
The roadside station is located in front of the "Harajiri Waterfall," also known as the Niagara of Oita. In spring, 400,000 tulips of about 100 varieties bloom between the waterfall and the roadside station, as well as in the rice paddies around the station. The product hall sells kabosu, a local specialty, and its processed products, seasonal vegetables, Ogata rice (Hinohikari), dried shiitake mushrooms, flowers, and more. At the Shirataki restaurant, visitors can enjoy Oita's local cuisine such as dango soup and toriten (chicken tempura), as well as creative dishes. On fine days, enjoy a relaxing meal outdoors on the terrace. Kabosu soft serve is also recommended.

Roadside Station Harajiri-no-Taki Waterfall Gourmet Information
Kabosu, the most popular local product

Oita Prefecture accounts for 90% of the nation's kabosu production, and it has even become a popular character in Oita Prefecture. The origin of Oita kabosu dates back to about 300 years ago, when a doctor in Usuki, Oita brought back kabosu seedlings from Kyoto and began cultivating them. It is a citrus fruit with more sweetness than acidity, and its citric acid concentration decreases during the growing process, increasing its sugar content. Young green kabosu can be served with sashimi, tempura, or in shochu (Japanese liquor), but the riper the fruit, the mellower the taste. The season for kabosu grown on the streets is from August to October. The season for kabosu grown in greenhouses is from March to August.
Information around Roadside Station Harajiri-no-Taki Waterfalls
Harajiri Waterfall
I'm proud of this one too.

The waterfall is 120 meters wide and has a drop of 20 meters, and has been selected as one of the 100 most famous waterfalls in Japan. On August 14, the Ogata Komatsumyo Fire Festival is held to pray for a good rice harvest, and approximately 11,000 torches are set alight around the waterfall to drive away insects.
Tulip Festa
I'm proud of this one too.

Since 1992, the "Tulip Festa" has been held every year in early April (*Canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus). Committee members and volunteers plant tulip bulbs in the paddy fields after the harvest to make them bloom. In 2016, the festival began to light up the paddies at night. On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays during the festival, a shuttle bus runs from JR Kyushu Hohi Honsen Line Ogata Station to the venue at Michi no Eki (Roadside Station). Events will also be held at the roadside station. Cherry blossoms and rape blossoms will also be in bloom, making this a flower festival worth seeing.
