Ogawa Sakuya Village

The simple hospitality of local residents Ogawa Shiki Gozen has a nostalgic flavor.

A "thatched-roof hut" is a hut where people sleep and work when they work in the mountains. The restaurant with thatched roof, a free rest area, a folklore museum, and cottages for overnight stays are all located in the area. The most popular dish is the "Ogawa Four Seasons Gozen" (1,500 yen), which uses locally harvested ingredients. (1,500 yen) Sixteen small plates are filled with handmade dishes prepared by local housewives, and each dish has a hearty, nostalgic flavor. Yamae Manga Museum - Ryosuke Nasu Memorial Museum

A satirical and political cartoon that will make you laugh and think.

The museum is located in Yuzentown, Kumamoto Prefecture, adjacent to Nishimera Village. The cartoonist Ryosuke Nasu was born in Yamae Village (now Yamae Town) and became popular after making his debut in 1933 at the age of 20. 75 years later, he left behind tens of thousands of works and established a firm position in the world of political cartoons, especially with his biting satire based on his sharp observation. On the other hand, he also left behind soft-touch landscapes and still-life paintings in addition to his cartoons. The museum opened in November 1992 to commemorate Ryosuke Nasu's achievements. Since then, the museum has held special exhibitions of not only his works but also those of current cartoonists, as well as satirical cartoons submitted by the public from all over Japan. The building was designed in the motif of a jigima, a local toy from the Hitoyoshi/Kuma region. Of the five independent buildings, three are art museums and two are community centers.

Special Historic Site Park Saitobaru Kofun Tumulus

Holiday to explore the tombs with seasonal scenery

The Saitobaru tumulus cluster in Saito City was built between the end of the 3rd century and the 7th century, and there are 319 tombs, mostly round ones. The public is restricted from entering Osahozuka and Mesahozuka, the reference sites for the mausoleums. The tombs are divided into 10 to 13 sub-groups according to the distribution of the tombs and the date of construction, etc. In addition to tombs with mounds, there is a mixture of underground burial mounds unique to southern Kyushu and horizontal burial mounds widely distributed throughout the country. Naturally, there are many unearthed artifacts, and the "haniwa child carrier" and "haniwa ship" excavated from the No. 170 burial mound have been designated as important cultural properties.
Since the first year of the Taisho Era, investigations have been conducted in turn, and some of the burial mounds that have been excavated are now open to the public. Currently, the "Saitobaru No. 13 Tumulus," "Saitobaru No. 206 Tumulus (Oni-no-Kutsu Tumulus)," and "Shamoto-no-Kami Yoko-ana Tomb Group Remains Preservation Covered Building" are open to visitors. The Saitobaru tumulus area has been designated as a special national historic site and is the first "Fudoki-no-oka" (Hill of Fudoki). The park has been developed to preserve and utilize the tombs, and visitors can enjoy rape blossoms, cherry blossoms, and azaleas in the spring, sunflowers in the summer, and cosmos in the fall. In addition to the Guidance Center, there is also the Saitobaru Archaeological Museum and the Ancient Life Experience Museum.
