Aoshima Shrine

The whole island is a power spot. Theme park for wishes and fortune-telling.

The shrine is located in the center of Aoshima, a small island connected to land by the Yayoi Bridge. The entire island of Aoshima, 1.5 km in circumference, is within the shrine's precincts. It is said that Yamayukihiko (Hiko Hohodeminomikoto) returned from the Dragon Palace, and until the Edo period (1603-1868), the entire island was considered a sacred area and off-limits to visitors. Tropical and subtropical plants grow thickly around the shrine, creating a unique atmosphere. The shrine is dedicated to Hiko Hohodeminomikoto, and is widely known as a shrine of marriage since he was united with Princess Toyotama, the god of the sea. It is also believed to be a god of safe childbirth, navigation, and traffic safety. There are various spots for making wishes and fortune telling within the shrine grounds, making it a fun place to make a wish.

Demons scrubbing and washing clothes? Famous Oddly-shaped Rocks on the Nichinan Coast

The "Demon's Washboard," a national natural monument, is an 8-km stretch of coastline from Aoshima Island to Kinjishima Island in the south, with an oddly shaped rock landscape. It is a deformed wave erosion scar formed in the late Miocene period (about 7 million years ago) when hydrothermal rocks (a geological formation of hard sandstone and soft mudstone piled up repeatedly) were uplifted and washed away by waves over a long period of time, leaving only hard sandstone layers piled up like a slab. The name comes from the fact that they look like giant washboards. At low tide, visitors can enjoy playing on the washboard.

Miyazaki Shrine

A Shinto shrine associated with Emperor Jinmu, who united the land of the gods.

The deity is Emperor Jinmu, the first emperor of Japan. It is said that Emperor Jinmu, who was born in Hyuga, planned a strategy with his three elder brothers at the Miyazaki Palace when he set out on his journey to unify the nation. This is said to have led to the founding of Miyazaki Shrine by Takeiwatatsunomikoto, grandson of Emperor Jinmu. Since Emperor Jinmu's parents are also enshrined here, many visitors pray for family safety, conjugal harmony, safe delivery, and the treasure of a child, as well as for victory and success in life, in honor of Emperor Jinmu, who fought in the battle and moved east. The highlight of the Miyazaki Jingu Grand Festival is a solemn procession of deities reminiscent of ancient times. Other events are held throughout the year, such as the Niinamesai Festival to pray for a good harvest and Yabusame (horseback archery on horseback).
