Giant dragons, gilded statues, thousand-armed Avalokitesvara... It's chaos, but it's a black vinegar factory!
On the right side of the entrance to the Nokumida Tunnel on the Higashi-Kyushu Expressway, a huge dragon is painted on the slope of a mountain, and what appears to be a golden Buddha statue can be seen in a row. One can't help but be taken aback by the sight of them. and your eyes are drawn to it. This is Chomei Helsinn Vinegar Brewery, which manufactures and sells pure rice black vinegar brewed in a turtle pot, and this "Iwaryujin" is located on its premises. The founder thought that the rocks on the mountainside behind the brewery looked like dragons, so in 2001 he had the rocks painted and prayed to Kirishima Jingu Shrine, Meiji Jingu Shrine, and Hokkaido Jingu Shrine to enshrine them. After that, Buddhist and other statues were dedicated around it, creating a seemingly chaotic space with a torii gate, Buddhist statues such as the Thousand-Armed Kannon, statues of the Seven Deities of Good Fortune, and even a statue of Kinjiro Ninomiya. It is recommended to buy black vinegar at the factory's direct sales shop, where you can get it at a discount.

Good to drink, good to eat Japan's first black vinegar restaurant
Fukuyama Town, overlooking Kinko Bay, has been active in black vinegar production since the end of the Edo period. Vinegar is brewed in jars called aman-tsubo, which are lined up outdoors. Black vinegar has long been the focus of attention due to the health boom. Fukuyama Kurozu Corporation, which brews black vinegar for a minimum of three years and a maximum of 10 years, opened Japan's first black vinegar restaurant in 2005. The restaurant offers a limited lunch course and black vinegar drinks, all of which use the company's own brand of black vinegar, "Kapposhida. Enjoy black vinegar cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere with a view of the jar fields, Kinko Bay, and Sakurajima from the restaurant windows. Visitors can also tour and taste the largest jar field in Fukuyama Town, and purchase black vinegar at the black vinegar store.

Bakumatsu Taiga Drama? Ancient stone-paved road in Satsuma
It was part of the old Oguchi-suji, one of the main highways in Satsuma during the Edo period, and was built over a period of 100 years from 1653. It was 1.5 km long, but what remains today is a 486.8 m stone-paved slope leading from Takaida in Kida to Kegami, and the stones are said to have been quarried from the nearby Hinosako Mountain. In 1877, during the Seinan War, the Satsuma Army led by Saigo Takamori headed for Kumamoto along this slope. The road has been selected as one of the "100 Historical Roads" by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, and has been used as a filming location for the historical dramas "Atsuhime," "Ryomaden," and "Saigo-Don," as it preserves the roadways of Satsuma in the late Edo period.
The villa of the lord of Satsuma at the end of the Edo period was also the foundation of Japan's modernization.
From RV Park Drive-in Obama to Kagoshima City, drive National Route 10 along Kinko Bay for about 30 minutes to Senganen Garden. Built in 1658 by Shimazu Mitsuhisa, Senganen is a villa with a magnificent view of Kinko Bay as a pond and Sakurajima as a mountain, and also shows the influence of Chinese culture. The palace also serves as a guest house. The area was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2015 as part of the "Industrial Revolutionary Heritage of Meiji Japan. There is also a store selling Satsuma faceted glass, which was originally made at the Shoko Shuseikan.
