Cherry blossoms, old temples, peonies, and more! Spots where you can enjoy the beauty of Japan

Kiyomizu-dera Temple on Mt. Motoyoshiyama was founded by Dengyo Daishi, the founder of the Tendai sect of Buddhism, in the middle of Mt. The temple is famous for the Kiyomizu-Dera Honbo Garden (designated a national place of scenic beauty), which is said to have been created by Sesshu in the Muromachi period (1336-1573). Kiyomizu Park, located along the mountain road leading to the temple, is a park with approximately 1,900 cherry trees in full bloom in early April each year. There is an observatory in the park from which visitors can view the Ariake Sea and Unzen over the cherry blossoms. Visitors can also enjoy the cherry blossoms in the precincts of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, where the vermilion-painted three-story pagoda of Kiyomizu-dera Temple is located. From April 10 to the end of April, the Kiyomizuyama Botan Festival will be held at the Kiyomizuyama Botan Garden. It is one of the largest peony gardens in Kyushu, with 2,500 peony plants of about 80 varieties in bloom. It is an 11-minute drive from Michi-no-Eki Miyama.

Japan's oldest Shingon temple founded by Kukai The temple of flowers and prayers is always in full bloom!

The temple is known as the first temple founded in Japan by Kukai (Kobo Ambassador) after his return from Tang Dynasty China, where he practiced asceticism after visiting Munakata Taisha Shrine. The temple is home to a standing statue of Fudo Myoo (designated as a National Important Cultural Property), which is said to have been made by Ambassador Kobo, as well as Gobutsudo (designated as a Prefectural Cultural Property) and Gomado (a gomado hall). Roadside Station Kurume x Kurume City World Azalea Center

Kurume's flower is the azalea A collection of azaleas from all over the world!

The Kurume azalea was bred by the Arima (Kurume) feudal clan in the Edo period. The Kurume azalea was selected as the city flower, and its cultivation is thriving. The Kurume World Azalea Center has about 10,000 azaleas of about 1,000 varieties from around the world, including Kurume azaleas. The Kurume azaleas are planted in different periods of time, and the center boasts the largest number of azalea varieties in Japan. Although the garden is open year-round, planting and growth work is usually the main focus. This year, the garden will be open to the public from April 7 to April 28, with priority given to visitors from the general public. Admission is free. It is a 6-minute drive from Michi no Eki Kurume. Roadside Station Kashima x Asahigaoka Park

Hanami banquet enjoyed by the feudal lords Kyushu's oldest nighttime cherry blossom lighting

Asahigaoka Park, located on the ruins of Kashima Castle, is one of the three most famous cherry blossom viewing spots in Saga Prefecture. The red gate, the main gate, stone walls, and surrounding samurai residences remain, and the park has been selected as one of the 100 best historical parks in Japan. The cherry trees in the old Kashima Castle were originally planted by the feudal lord Nabeshima Naoakira, who brought Yoshino cherry tree seedlings from Edo (now Tokyo). The rows of cherry trees leading to the park are called "Flower Tunnel," and boast a breathtaking view of 5,000 cherry trees at a glance. The park is also famous for its nighttime cherry blossom viewing, and was the first place in Kyushu where the cherry blossoms are illuminated at night. Roadside Station Momoyama Tengaichi x Ruins of Nagoya Castle

Nagoya Castle was built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who wanted to advance to the continent, as a frontline base for his invasion of Korea. It was the second largest castle in Japan at the time, after Osaka Castle, and a huge castle town was built around it. However, the war ended when Hideyoshi died of illness. Nagoya Castle was abandoned and quickly disappeared. Today, only a few stone walls remain. About 400 Someiyoshino cherry trees have been planted on the stonewalls of the ruins of the castle, and they are at their best from late March. Kushima Castle was built by the first lord of the domain, Yoshizen Omura (Yoshiaki), and remained an impregnable castle until the end of the Edo period. Omura Shrine, which enshrines successive feudal lords, is located at the site of the castle's main citadel. This flower garden is located in the suburbs of Sasebo City and is well known by those in the know. The garden covers an area of approximately 12,000 square meters, and is actually managed by a private individual. The garden is open all year round, and visitors can enjoy seasonal flowers such as begonias, plum blossoms, cherry blossoms, azaleas, satsuki, roses, peonies, peonies, peonies, irises, salsbergs, and bush clovers, which are in full bloom all year round. Aso is famous for its single cherry tree, the 400-year-old Isshin Gyo cherry tree. It is only 6 minutes away from the roadside station Asobano-no-Sato Kugino. However, I dare you to visit Kannon-zakura here. It is a mountain cherry tree planted in a pasture on the mountainside of the outer rim of Minamiaso. The tree is said to be about 100 years old. It has become popular in recent years for the beautiful shape of the tree, which blooms against the backdrop of the Aso mountains. The name "Kannon-zakura" (meaning "Goddess of Mercy") comes from the fact that the Bato Kannon (Goddess of Mercy) is enshrined nearby. Because it is a private ranch, it is usually closed to the public, but only during the Kannon-zakura blooming season. Please note that you cannot enter the pasture from the nearby Kannonzakura Park. Koshuho, where the Ao no Domon (Blue Cave Gate) was drilled, is a representative scenic spot of Yabakei. This spring, Michi no Eki Miyakonojo Roadside Station will undergo a major renovation and reopening.
