Nokumida Tunnel entrance on the Higashi-Kyushu Expressway from Kokubu, Kirishima City toward Kagoshima City. On the slope of the mountain on the right side of the road, there is a huge dragon and what looks like a golden Buddha statue. The side of the road is lined with what appear to be golden Buddha statues. It is a spot where one must be careful not to look aside. This is Chomei Helsinn Vinegar Brewery. This is Chomei Helsinn Vinegar Brewery, which manufactures and sells pure rice black vinegar brewed in a kamebotsu (earthenware pot).
The company, which has been in business for about 35 years, moved to this location in 1994. At that time, Yoshifumi Yamashita, the founder and chairman of the company, was inspired by a rock on the slope of the mountain behind the company that looked like a dragon, which he painted in 2001. He also prayed to Kirishima Jingu Shrine, Meiji Jingu Shrine, and Hokkaido Jingu Shrine for the entry of the soul and dedicated it as the Dragon God. It is surprising that no carving was done on the stone, which was left as it was in its natural state. Later, Buddhist and other statues were dedicated around it, and it took on its present form, but because it dared not stick to any religion or sect, it is a chaotic space at first glance, with a torii gate, Buddhist statues such as the Thousand-Armed Kannon, statues of the Seven Deities of Good Luck, and even a statue of Kinjiro Ninomiya. However, the underlying theme is a wish for world peace and prayers for the health and longevity of worshippers, and many lanterns donated by people whose wishes have been fulfilled are on display.

It is also a place with a great view of Heta Kojima, Bentenjima, and Oki Kojima, collectively called the three islands of Hayato in Kinko Bay, and Sakurajima, the symbol of Kagoshima people's hearts, can be seen beyond them. On New Year's Day, the gates open early in the morning to allow visitors to see the sunrise, an event that has become a tradition and is a great success every year.
Now, health is not only something we pray for, but something we practice ourselves. So, let's buy some black vinegar. Black vinegar matured for a long time in a pot is rich in amino acids and has a mild and rich flavor, making it ideal not only for cooking but also for drinking. You can order it online, but it is recommended to buy it at the factory's direct sales office, where you can get it at a discount.
