Summer vacation is coming! Special Events in Kyushu and Roadside Stations

 Summer vacation starts on July 20 this year. So, where will you go for your summer vacation? Events will be held at roadside stations as well, including events that you can participate in with your children and events where you can get special products at a discount. There will also be regular performances of kagura and ningyo joruri (puppet theater). Stop by a roadside station on your trip and take part in and enjoy these events.

Flea market held for local vendors

 Roadside Station Itoda regularly holds a flea market, and on July 21, the first flea market will be held after the summer vacation. Come and see what will be on display. On July 28, a hands-on bamboo craft workshop for parents and children will be held. Participation is free of charge!

Summer festival event held for parents and children

 Local group "Natsuda" at the lawn of the roadside station! It's the sea! It's the summer festival! was held on the lawn of the Michi-no-Eki station. Kitchen cars selling hot sandwiches and grilled chicken will make an appearance, and handmade goods and pet products will be sold. Super ball scooping and other events will also be held.

Michi-no-eki Michi no Eki Joyousha Hikosan

Beetle or stag beetle?

 Beetles and stag beetles are the staples of summer vacation insect events. These two major insects are also the stars of Michi no Eki's annual summer vacation special event. The "KABUTO/KUWAGATA lottery" will be held on July 27 for the 10th time this year. Winners will win beetles and stag beetles grown in Soeda Town. 400 yen for one draw, 1,000 yen for three draws. 400 yen for 1 time, 1000 yen for 3 times, ends when all the prizes are gone. There will also be killifish scooping and beetle and stag beetle sales.

The annual grape festival was held!

 Imari City is rich in fruits. Grapes are in season in summer. At the annual grape festival, Shinnemuscat, Pione, and Kyoho grapes will be offered at reasonable prices. This year, the quantity of grapes is a little limited due to the harvest. Don't miss out on these precious freshly harvested grapes!

All-you-can-stuff vegetables at the Oguri Township Summer Festival!

 The annual summer festival at the roadside station will be held again this year at the event space. There will be a lottery, egg catching, watermelon cracking, all-you-can-stuff vegetables, and more. The raffle is one for every 2,000 yen spent, and all receipts must be combined; the all-you-can-stuff vegetables are 300 yen per bag, and you can get as many eggs as you can catch in a ball. All prizes will end as soon as they run out. The waterfront swimming pool is also open for use now.

Roadside Station Seiwa Bunraku-eup

Watch the "One Piece" collaborative puppet show!

 Adjacent to the roadside station is the Seiwa Bunraku Kan, which houses a museum and theater for traditional rural ningyo joruri (puppet theater). With the cooperation of "ONE PIECE" author Eiichiro Oda, who is supporting the recovery from the Kumamoto earthquake, the theater will produce a collaborative work with him in November 2022 titled "Chofu Afune De Fuyuuzakura (Winter Cherry Blossoms in a Super Familiar Funko). It has been a regular performance program since this spring. This summer's performance will begin on July 20. This is not to be missed!
Performance dates: July 20, 21, 27, 28; August 3, 4, 10, 11, 14, 15, 17, 18, 24, 25; September 15, 16. All performances begin at 13:30. High school students and older: ¥3,500.

Roadside Station Kiyo-Kawa

Ontake Kagura with a history of over 570 years

 Like Seiwa Bunraku-eup, a roadside station, this station also has a kagura hall on the station grounds, where kagura performances are held on a regular basis, almost once a month. The "Ontake Kagura" is performed and has a history of more than 570 years. It is designated as a national Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset, and 17 groups continue to perform it today. This summer's performances will be held on July 21, August 4, and 18, and August 4 is the 15th anniversary performance of the Kagurakan, where children's kagura groups will perform kagura. The fee is 1,000 yen for junior high school students and older.

Summer Vacation Workshops Held in Nikuru

 Elementary school students gather at the roadside station! A variety of hands-on classes will be held in the kitchen studio and multipurpose room. The period is from August 1 to 7, except for August 2 and 3. For example, on the first day, craft sausage making will be held in the kitchen studio, and a pottery class will be held in the multipurpose room. Why not participate in the hands-on class that interests you? The participation fee is 1,000 yen for both.
