The name comes from "Bassaro," meaning "a lot" in the Asakura region. The fertile soil and the temperature difference between day and night produce fresh fruits such as grapes, pears, persimmons, and apples, but persimmons are especially famous, and "Fuyu persimmons" are a prized product. A five-minute drive from the station is the Harazuru Hot Springs along the Chikugo River. Many visitors use the station on their way to and from the hot springs, and they are also pleased that they can have their purchased agricultural products delivered from the station's delivery corner.
