Let's hope for a speedy recovery!
First, support us by shopping!

The building was almost submerged by the torrential rains in southern Kumamoto Prefecture in July 2020, and was partially reopened in 2009, operating only as a product center. Currently, local products are sold at the shopping street, which is scheduled to be newly renovated in 2027. Support the recovery efforts by purchasing products such as Aonori Furikake (seaweed sprinkled with green laver). On weekends, Sakamoto's products are sold at the Yatsushiro City Hall and at the Uedori Bipresse in Kumamoto City, so be sure to buy them there as well!

Buy it now! Sweetfish stewed in sweetened soy sauce

The Kuma River is famous for its ayu (sweetfish) fishing, and sometimes a "shaku-ayu," a large ayu fish up to 30 cm in length, can be caught. The Kawabe River upstream of the Kuma River is said to be "the clearest river in Japan" and is ideal for the growth of ayu fish. This "sweet sweetfish stew" is made from a sweetfish with young eggs raised by Ikoma Suisan, located along the Kawabe River. The ayu is raised in an environment similar to that of a natural river. The ayu is raised in an environment similar to that of a natural river, and boasts the same aroma and flesh quality as that of wild caught ayu. The sweetfish is slowly stewed in a large pot over a charcoal fire for about 10 hours in a sweet and spicy saucepan. The ayu's meat falls into pieces and the bitterness of the ayu can be felt subtly. 1,500 yen per bag (tax included).

This is the one to eat. Adult Banshakuyuzu Soft

The traditional Banshakuyuzu soft serve ice cream is made with the juice of Banshakuyuzu, a specialty of Yatsushiro, and topped with a paste of Banshakuyuzu. This yuzu paste, known as "maxito" in Yatsushiro City and other areas, is harvested from December to March, but the paste was created so that it can be enjoyed outside of the harvest season. The bitter and sour taste of the yuzu enhances the flavor of the soft-serve ice cream, and as the name suggests, it has a slightly mature taste. 450 yen (tax included)

Sakamoto Hot Spring Center Kure-ON

I'm proud of this one too.

Located in a forest near a tributary of the Kuma River, the bathhouse has a large bath, an open-air bath, a sauna, and two family bath rooms. The windows of the large baths overlook the greenery of the forest, and the open-air baths allow visitors to enjoy bathing in the forest as well. The water temperature is slightly lukewarm, making it suitable for a long soak. The water is also known for its mildness and smooth skin. Amenities include shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and a hair dryer.
