Married Couple Rocks in Sakurai Futamigaura

Itoshima's representative scenic spot, selected as one of the 100 best beaches in Japan

Sakurai Futamigaura, with its impressive white torii gate, is the site of Sakurai Shrine, a cultural asset designated by the prefecture, and has long been revered as a sacred place. The sacred rocks are a couple soaring in the sea about 150 m from the shore, and the rope connecting the two rocks is 30 m long and weighs 1 ton, and is hung by the shrine parishioners every year at high tide in late April or early May. While Ise Futamiura in Mie Prefecture is called "Futamigaura of sunrise," this one is famous for "Futamigaura of sunset. Around the summer solstice in June every year, visitors can see a wonderful view of the sun setting in the center of the rocks.

Imazu, Nishi-ku, Fukuoka City is right next to Itoshima City. From Itoshima Farmhouse UOVO, it takes only 11 minutes to get to "Fukuoka City Sea Fishing Park. You don't need to bring any fishing gear. Life jackets can be rented free of charge (required for elementary school students and younger). For beginners and families, we recommend trying your hand at sea bream fishing at the ocean fishing pond. For an extra fee, you can have the sea bream you catch prepped and filleted. There is also a snack store, so you can enjoy a light meal while casting a fishing line. In addition, from March to October, you can enjoy barbecue at the attached barbecue plaza (within 3 hours).

Karadomari Ebisu Oyster House

Savory, creamy, and juicy oysters grilled over charcoal

Itoshima is famous for the oyster huts that open at various fishing ports during the oyster season. Oyster huts are open at six fishing ports in Itoshima City and Imazu, Fukuoka City, but the one closest to LASPARK RESORT Itoshima is the Karadomari fishing port oyster hut adjacent to Fukuoka City Sea Fishing Park, which accommodates 320 people. The Karadomari Ebisu Oyster offered is a brand-name oyster that the Fukuoka City Fisheries Cooperative is proud of. It has a rich flavor and its meat is plump. Because they are grilled over charcoal, they have an added savory flavor, and you can eat as many as you like without getting tired of them. Other menu items include shellfish such as turban shells and clams, squid, shrimp, and dried fish, and the fluffy oyster rice (limited quantity) is also popular. The restaurant is open from November to the end of March (subject to change depending on the oysters' growing conditions). No food or beverages may be brought into the restaurant.

Suginoya Hamachi Sake Brewery

Local beer, pizza, bread, and curry.

Founded in 1870, this sake brewery has a history of over 150 years. In addition to sake, the brewery also boasts a number of breweries with a long history of fertilization. On the premises, there is a sake shop where visitors can sample plenty of sake, as well as a bakery that makes freshly baked bread using Daiginjo sake lees and fresh yeast from the local beer. The most popular of all is the "Mugishu Kobo" where you can taste freshly brewed local beer. The beer is served with amber ale, which won a gold medal at the World Beer Summit, as well as pizza and curry, which go perfectly with the beer.

Akutoya no Daimon (Great Gate of Akutoya)

A national natural treasure that can only be viewed from the sea, on a sightseeing boat!

Akutoya no Daimon, one of the three great Genbu caves in Japan, is designated as a national natural monument. A cluster of basalt pillars towering over the azure sea form a cliff 64 m high and 180 m long, forming a mysterious dark cave. This precious scenic spot, which can only be seen from the sea, has been selected as one of the 88 best bathing spots in Japan by the Ministry of the Environment. The sightseeing boats operate from March 16 to November 30, except in winter. The boat departs from Akutuya Fishing Port and takes about 25 minutes to enjoy the strange rock art created by nature, and if you are lucky, you can enter the caves.

Daikakuji School of Shingon Buddhism, Raisan Sennyoji Daihiouin

Enchanting views of fresh greenery, autumn leaves, and snow! The statue of the Kannon (Goddess of Mercy), a national important cultural property, is also available for viewing!

Sennyoji Temple is said to have been founded in 178 A.D. by Seiga Shonin, a monk from Mt. The temple was designated as an imperial temple by Emperor Shomu, and was revered by successive emperors, shoguns, and feudal lords. In 1753, Kuroda Tsugitaka, feudal lord of Fukuoka, built the present temple, Daihio-in Temple. Known as one of the best places in Fukuoka Prefecture for its autumn foliage, the 400-year-old maple tree is designated as a natural monument by the prefecture. The temple grounds are also worth seeing in the season of fresh greenery and in snowy weather! Visitors can also see the "Standing Wooden Statue of Eleven-Faced Thousand-Armed Kannon" and "Seated Wooden Statue of Seiga Shonin," both National Important Cultural Properties, and the "Wooden Statues of Tamonten and Jikokuten," both Prefectural Cultural Properties. If desired, visitors can try their hand at sutra copying.

A treasure trove of delicious food, Itoshima's ingredients are all here!

　This very popular market boasts one of the highest sales of any direct sales market in Japan. It is no exaggeration to say that "Itoshima produce" is synonymous with delicious food in Fukuoka, and the market attracts many customers every day from inside and outside of the prefecture. About 1,200 Itoshima producers bring in all kinds of agricultural and livestock products every day, including vegetables, fruits, fresh fish, meat, rice, prepared foods, cut flowers, and processed foods. The website uploads "Today's Arrivals" daily, so it is recommended to check before you go. Soft ice cream made from "Ito Monogatari" milk produced in Itoshima is one of their specialties.
