The best place to eat: Red Beef Bowl

Akagyu Restaurant Yoka Yoka is a restaurant directly operated by a ranch that raises its own brand of Akagyu beef named "Kosei-gyu". The most popular dish, "Akagyu donburi," is a bowl of rice topped with rare grilled aka-gyu beef, beef shigureni and moromi miso, and topped with a half-boiled egg in the center. The beef is topped with a half-boiled egg in the center. The beef is already coated with sauce, and wasabi (Japanese horseradish) is added to taste. It brings a smile to my face. The rice covered with sauce is covered with the meat, and another bite is taken. Naturally, the shigureni and rice, or moromi miso and rice, are also a nice match! The half-boiled egg yolk adds a mellowing effect. 2,290 yen (tax included)

Chestnuts, a local delicacy

The Yamaga City area in northern Kumamoto Prefecture is famous for the largest harvest of Japanese chestnuts in western Japan. The clay soil is suitable for chestnut growth, and chestnuts are harvested from late August. The varieties include "Tanzawa," "Tsukuba," "Ginyori," and "Rihei. They are collectively called "Yamaga Japanese chestnuts. Yamaga City and its surrounding areas hold the "Western Japan's Best Chestnut Festival Week" from mid-September to early October every year. Each area and facility holds events, and visitors can enjoy eating original chestnut sweets and other treats. The Shikakita area is known as "Imo/Kuri Pride Road," where visitors can enjoy a menu of sweet potato and chestnut dishes.

Bamboo shoots, a local specialty

Kakita Town, along with the neighboring town of Tachibana in Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture, produces a large amount of bamboo shoots. Every year from mid-March for about a month, the town and Tachibana Town hold an event named "Takenoko Kaido" (bamboo shoot road), where restaurants in the area offer seasonal bamboo shoot dishes. At Michi-no-Eki (roadside station), visitors can also enjoy a limited-time bamboo shoots menu. Of course, it is also recommended to buy freshly picked bamboo shoots at the product center.
