Gourmet Information of Roadside Station Kamitenso Sanparu
Local product: prawns

The meat is the most plump and resilient of all shrimps, rich in flavor, and the vermilion color that is produced when cooked is vivid and gorgeous. This is what makes kuruma ebi such a high quality shrimp. Korewajima, formerly Oyano Town in Kamitenso, is the birthplace of cultured tiger prawns. The cultivation of tiger prawns began in the Meiji era (1868-1912), and even today, Amakusa's tiger prawns are one of the nation's most famous products. The season is from the end of November to the end of January. For customers who come from far away, they take orders at the station store and deliver fresh, live Amakusa tiger prawns to their tables.
