Gourmet Information of Roadside Station Kirishima

The station boasts of its blueberry products.

The fruits from the blueberry farm are processed into jam, juice, and other products, which are sold at the "Kami no Sachi" special products corner. The restaurant "Hot Kirishima-kan" offers a seasonal "Blueberry Brulee" (400 yen). At the "Yokamon Market," a soft-serve ice cream shop, blueberry soft serve "Sotto Kiri-Yume" (350 yen) is available all year round. Yes, you can fully enjoy the taste of blueberries during the summer. (All prices include tax).

The best place to eat Kurobuta Tonkatsu Set Meal

At the attached restaurant, "Hot Kirishima-kan," you are sure to enjoy Kagoshima's famous Kurobuta cuisine. Kagoshima's Kurobuta pork is the best in Japan in terms of both production and quality, and the meat is fine and firm, yet tender and crispy. The restaurant menu offers four kinds of Kurobuta dishes, ranging from Kurobuta udon and soba noodles to a luxurious Kurobuta shabu nabe set meal. All of them are made from Kirishima-grown Kurobuta pork, which is known for its deliciousness. Tonkatsu is one of the most popular dishes. The crispy batter of the pork cutlet allows you to fully appreciate the juicy meat of the Kurobuta pork. 1,650 yen (including tax)

Let's eat this too! Saigo-Don Gozen

Another recommended menu item is "Saigo-Don Gozen," which offers plenty of Kagoshima flavors. This menu is limited to 10 servings per day, and the first one to order wins. The menu includes Kurobuta pork stewed with soybean paste, homemade Satsuma-age, deep-fried Kirishima tofu, mini bowl of rice topped with eel, Satsuma soup, small bowl of cooked food, Yamakawazuke pickles, and for dessert, "handmade yokan" that looks like a mousse. The dessert is a "handmade yokan" that looks like a mousse. Kurobuta pork cartilage stewed in miso is locally called "tonkotsu" (pork bone), and is made by simmering kurobuta pork cartilage in shochu and miso. The meat falls apart in the mouth. Because the roadside station is located at an elevation of 670 meters, the restaurant windows overlook Sakurajima and Kinko Bay, and the Kirishima city center spreads out below. Enjoy the view that Saigo-Don loved while savoring the flavors of Kagoshima. 1,350 yen (tax included).

Kirishima Shrine

If you want to have fun in the area

There is almost no tourist who comes to Kirishima who does not visit Kirishima Jingu Shrine. The shrine was founded in the 6th century to worship Ninigi no Mikoto, the deity of the mythology of the founding of Japan. The shrine was originally built on Seimon Hill, between Takachiho peak and the Mihachi "crater," but was repeatedly lost and rebuilt due to several Kirishima eruptions. The shrine was moved to its current location more than 500 years ago. The shrine pavilion was built and donated by Yoshitaka Shimazu, the fourth lord of the Satsuma domain, in 1715. The shrine is a treasure trove of historical and power spots, including an over 800 year-old sacred cedar and the "Sazare-ishi" stone, which is mentioned in "Kimigayo" (the Japanese poem "Kimigayo"). It is a nationally important cultural property.
