The former Asahishi Village, located at the northern foot of the Aso Outer Rim, is a thriving livestock farming area, so much so that it is called the "Kingdom of Livestock Breeding. It is said to have the largest dairy, beef cattle, and pig production in western Japan. The most prized product is "Asahi beef," a local brand of cattle. At the roadside station, which has a well-stocked meat corner, many visitors come for the Asahi beef and Kumamoto's Rindo Pork. Freshly made croquettes (170 yen) and minced pork cutlets (170 yen) are also good for a drive. The restaurant "Shokusaikan" serves grilled meat and hamburgers. Next to the station grounds is a cosmos field, where you can view cosmos in the fall.

Kyokushi Gyu" is also the Kumamoto Prefecture brand "Ajisai Gyu". It is a crossbred cow with a Japanese dairy Holstein mother and a Japanese Black Wagyu father. The meat is tender and lean with moderate marbling. The meat is not overly fatty, so it is healthy and light. The hamburger steak and yakiniku set at the restaurant is priced at 1,430 yen, and the Asahiushi beef top loin set is 1,980 yen (tax included). On the 29th of every month, you can get a discount on meat at the produce center.
