Roadside Station Suiben-no-sato Oyama Gourmet Information
Local product: Dried Ume Plum

Ume-boshi is a traditional Japanese food, and in recent years has become known as a health food. In the past, the former town of Oyama has been trying to revitalize the village with the catchphrase "Let's plant ume chestnuts and go to Hawaii" since the 1950s. As a result, the town is now a nationally famous ume-growing region. In particular, ume farmers in the town compete in the production of pickled plums, and in the Heisei era, the "National Ume-boshi Competition" is held once every four years. It is the Olympics of pickled plums. The pickled plums of the region are a concentrated taste of each farmer's pride. We hope you will find the pickled plums with the saltiness you like.
Buy it! Ume chazuke (plum pudding)

If pickled plums are the most popular local product, then naturally there is a wide selection of pickled plums and processed ume-related products. Among them, we recommend the ume chazuke (1,080 yen including tax). A whole, high-quality Nanko-ume plum from the town of Oyama is included in the dish. When hot water is poured, the aroma of mitsuba leaves, seaweed, and plenty of sesame seeds come into play. The red pickled plums are crumbled into a smooth, tart mixture, and you can enjoy them as a staple food, or even as an evening snack for students preparing for exams. It is good not only as a staple food, but also as a nighttime meal for students preparing for entrance exams, and as a topping for drinks.
The best place to take out Salvatore Cuomo's Gelato.

Salvatore Cuomo, an international chef and businessman who has introduced Neapolitan pizza to Japan and has been responsible for numerous Italian restaurants in Japan alone, moved to Hita City in 2020 and is developing new products using local ingredients. His new gelato brand "GELATERIA LAB3680 OKUHITA," located at a roadside station, sells fruit gelato made from Hita Daisen plums (photo at left), Hita pears, and Fukuoka Amao strawberries (photo at right). The percentage of fruit in the gelato is said to be more than 50%, about twice the usual ratio. Mr. Cuomo's technique makes the fresh fruit into a smooth gelato. Enjoy the ultra-luxurious taste. Single 580 yen and up, double 690 yen and up, waffle cup + 100 yen (tax included).

Since most of the site is hilly, a course is set up for visitors according to their walking ability. Of course, it is recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes. The view from the park is also good. Take your time and take a rest while looking at the flowers.
