Toyotomi Hideyoshi built Nagoya Castle in order to mobilize troops for the invasion of Korea during the Bunroku-Keicho War, and more than 130 feudal lords, including Tokugawa Ieyasu and Maeda Toshiie, gathered around the castle and set up camp there. Although it lasted only seven years, the population exceeded 200,000 during that time. The ruins of Nagoya Castle and the 23 camps are special national historic sites.
