Local Products Mushrooms

Oki Town's specialty is mushrooms. The town boasts the largest production of mushrooms in Kyushu. At the back of the station's product hall is a "Mushroom Picking Gallery" where visitors can pick their favorite mushrooms such as eringi, shimeji, enoki, and numerous mushrooms from a special cup. Each mushroom costs 100 yen or more.

The local product, Amaou

Although it may seem surprising, Oki Town is one of the leading strawberry production areas in Fukuoka Prefecture, and from January to early May, strawberries are shipped from the town and are on display at train stations. The variety is "Amaou," which has a good balance of sugar content and acidity. The "Amaou" variety was developed in Fukuoka Prefecture, and until January 2025, the name "Amaou" cannot be used outside the prefecture under a "breeder's right. The taste is just as it was named "Amaou" from the words "aikai," "round," "ookai," and "umai. You can also pick strawberries at the experience farm adjacent to the station. You are free to choose whether to buy them at the station or pick them at the strawberry farm!

Here's where to eat Deli & Buffet Kururun

This buffet restaurant has been popular since its opening. The staff, including the cooks, are all women. The ingredients are, of course, fresh vegetables from local producers. The menu is changed on a moment's notice depending on the vegetables of the day, and dishes are prepared in a flexible manner. There are more than 40 kinds of dishes on the menu. About 10 kinds of desserts are also available.

Mizuta Tenmangu Shrine and Koinoki Shrine

If you want to have fun in the area

Mizuta Tenmangu Shrine in Honda was founded in the Kamakura period. It enshrines Sugawara no Michizane, and was the guardian deity of Mizuta no Sho, an important manor in Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. It is still revered today as one of the two largest Tenmangu shrines in Kyushu, following Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. The main shrine is designated as a cultural property of Fukuoka Prefecture. There are 21 subordinate shrines, the most popular of which is Koiki Shrine. Koinoki-jinja Shrine has been in existence since Tenmangu Shrine was built, and its deity is Koinomikoto, a goddess of love. It is said that the shrine was built to comfort the soul of Sugawara Michizane, who was thinking of his wife and children left behind in the capital. Today, the shrine is the only "god of love" in Japan, winning the hearts of young women.
