道の駅フェニックス

One of Miyazaki's most spectacular spots is right in front of you.
A full lineup of products limited to roadside stations

Horikiri Pass, a classic scenic spot in Miyazaki, is right in front of the museum. From the observation deck at an elevation of about 50 meters, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean, not to mention the strange rock formations and the Oni no Wasaban (washing board of demons), and the seasonal flowers that bloom on the grounds, including lantana, bougainvillea, and poinsettia, are truly magnificent. Also, a 5-minute walk down the stairs allows visitors to walk on the washing board at low tide. The product center, which offers a variety of original products and shochu (distilled spirit), is a must-see, as is the soft serve shop, which offers four different flavors of mango and hyuganatsu (Japanese citrus fruit). (The restaurant will close in March 2022.)

Buy this Miyazaki Mango Ring Cake

Miyazaki Mango Ring Cake, an original sweet developed with the cooperation of local mango farmers in Aoshima. The out-of-spec mangoes produced in Miyazaki Prefecture, which are traded at a high price as brand-name agricultural products, are effectively utilized. The mangoes are processed into puree and kneaded into the batter. The moist texture is impressive, with a delicate softness that loosens easily in the base. The rich aroma of ripe mangoes spreads out, and the refined sweetness of the caramel sauce soaked into it is exquisitely balanced. Recommended to be served lightly chilled. 1,080 yen.

Buy this one too! Shrimp Salt Mini Pie
