The best place to eat: Tachi-ogi-don set meal

Tachi fry got its name from the appearance of a silver sword swimming in the sea. In Kumamoto Prefecture, the Yatsushiro Sea (Shiranui Sea) and Shimabara Bay are the fishing grounds for swordfish. The main dish at the "Tabakuman Set Meal" at a station in Ashikita Town on the Yatsushiro Sea coast is a bowl of rice topped with swordfish. Three pieces of deep-fried swordfish tempura, lightly seasoned with soy sauce, ginger, and other dipping sauces, stand tall on top of the bowl. The crispy batter is then coated with a special sauce and sprinkled with sesame seeds, adding flavor to the otherwise bland swordfish. The set menus are also served with sashimi of the swordfish. This sashimi has a beautiful, smooth, silvery skin! According to the station manager, "The fish is caught by hand, without a net, which can damage the flesh. The shiny, silver-skinned sashimi has a very special texture and elasticity. Set meal 1,800 yen, bowl of rice topped with swordfish 980 yen, sashimi 500 yen, all including tax.

Let's eat this too!

Another recommendation is the "Tachi-gyo-jyu. The fish is deep-fried in flour, dipped in a special sauce made from soy sauce and honey, and broiled. The fish is browned and has a rich flavor. Because it is a light fish, its flavor is very varied. The fluffy swordfish is served with a rich sauce that will surely keep your chopsticks going. A la carte 1,000 yen, set meal 1,300 yen, both including tax.

Buy it here Dried saury with mirin (dried saury)

This gem is carefully processed so as not to spoil the unique surface brightness of the swordfish. The secret mirin (sweet sake) seasoning is not too sweet. We recommend pan-frying the fish rather than grilling it on a fish grill. The fish is tenderized by pan-frying in oil, and the glittering shine, which is compared to the blade of a sword, is not easily removed. 1,640 yen (tax included).

Let's buy some salt rice crackers.

Cape salt" is a natural salt containing ingredients from the hot springs at Cape Otachimisaki. It is produced at the salt factory "Ennomusubi Kan" in the Otachimisaki Park in Ashikita Town. Salt rice crackers made with this salt are called "shio senbei. The salt gives the cracker a subtle sweetness, making it an original product with a difference from the others. A lemon flavor made with Japanese lemon is also available. 180 yen per bag (tax included), 200 yen for the lemon flavor (tax included).
