Roadside Station Tara Gourmet Information
Local product: Tara Mandarin Oranges

There are many mandarin orchards in the area around Taradake, which is about 900 meters above sea level. This is because the slopes of the mountains and the mild climate allow for the growth of delicious mandarin oranges that benefit from the minerals in the abundant underground water and the sea breezes of the Ariake Sea. Tara-mikan is the generic name for the mandarin oranges harvested in Tara-machi: Onshu-mikan and fully ripe Daioh in October, Sweet Spring and Clementine in December, and Iyokan, Dekopon, and Amatsu in spring, which are harvested until around May. Find the mikan of your choice.
Ham and Sausage

In Tara Town, there are two ham and sausage manufacturers, Yamazaki Ham and Tajima Chikusan. Yamazaki Ham sells its ham and sausages at famous department stores and other places, where they are known for their aromatic and mellow flavor. In 2006, Tajima Chikusan entered 20 products in the International Contest for Processed Food Products (SUFFA) in Germany, winning eight gold, seven silver, and three bronze awards, for a total of 18 products. Why don't you buy them at "Tarafuku-kan" and compare the tastes?
Let's get this one, too. Clementine Pie.

Clementines are small oranges native to Spain. Its sweetness and aroma are outstanding, and the station's original souvenir pastry "clementine pie" using this orange has been available since 2017. The crisp pie crust is filled with clementine confiture (jam). The rich yet elegant aroma and the opulent sweetness of clementines dance lightly on the tongue. A package of 6 pies for 600 yen and a package of 12 pies for 1,000 yen are available at the station.

Underwater torii of the Oooshi-jinja Shrine
If you want to have fun in the area

It is written "big fish" and reads "Namino-wo. About 300 years ago, the residents of the island left the island to sink at high tide in order to punish a bad government official. A large fish called "Namino-uo" appeared and saved him. The reformed chief built a shrine and an underwater torii (torii gate). The custom of erecting a torii gate every 30 years continues to this day. The torii is located between the island and Okinoshima Island, and can be reached on foot at low tide. It is a power spot for praying for good catches and safety at sea. (Photo courtesy of Saga Prefecture Tourism Federation)
