Roadside Station Yayoi Gourmet Information

This is the one to eat. Sushi Bento

In Saiki City, gourmet campaigns featuring seafood as a specialty are flourishing. The "Nippo Kaigan Donburi Kaido" (Nippo Coast Donburi Road), "Saiki Sushi Kaido" (Saiki Sushi Kaido), and "Higashi Kyushu Ise Ebi Kaido" (Higashi Kyushu Ise Ebi Kaido), where seafood rice bowls are the mainstream, and restaurants in the city compete to serve the best seafood. Saiki boasts a wide variety of fish species, and the fish grown in the rough seas of the Bungo Channel are firm and fatty. You can easily purchase such Saiki sushi at a roadside station. Because it is made by the seafood processing company that operates the station, the freshness and quality of the fish are guaranteed. And of course, the price is reasonable. From the top, "Inari Sushi" (300 yen for 5 pieces), "Shrimp Sushi" (980 yen), "Tokujo Nigiri Assortment" (1,250 yen), and "Salmon Sushi" (980 yen). All prices include tax. There are other varieties available, so be sure to visit the Saiki Sushi Corner in the product hall.

Buy this Yukinko Sushi

This dish was invented at the local "Ai-no-Sato Kobo. Sushi rice is placed on a bed of shiso leaves, topped with cooked dried shiitake mushrooms from Oita Prefecture, and slices of vinegared daikon radish. The dish was awarded the Forestry Agency Director-General's Prize for the best dish at the National Mushroom Cooking Contest in 2000. It is now a representative local dish of Honmou. 4 pieces per package, 540 yen (tax included).

Buy this one too! Mild red shiso dressing

Akashiso is a type of shiso as well as Aoshiso (Oba). Although it is not usually seen on the dinner table, it is actually an edible leaf that is indispensable for pickled plums. The red perilla leaves grown locally in Yayoi are made into a dressing as a private brand (PB) product by Michi no Eki Yayoi. The two products are the "Yayoi Red Perilla Dressing" (540 yen including tax) and the "Mild Red Perilla Dressing" shown in the photo (600 yen including tax). Based on soy sauce made by a local soy sauce maker, the dressings take advantage of the tartness and flavor of red perilla and the sweetness of onions. The red shiso dressing is an unlikely choice. The station manager's top recommendation is "shredded cabbage. It certainly goes well with shredded cabbage! Yakitori restaurants in Hakata always serve it with cabbage leaves and vinegar sauce, but you can go with this dressing, Station Chief!

Around Roadside Station Yayoi

hot spring bathhouse with a bathtub rented by the end of the summer

I'm proud of this one too.

In addition to separate large public baths for men and women, Yayoi no Yu is a healing facility equipped with private baths with rest rooms and the popular wax sauna. The Japanese-style and Western-style open-air baths are completely different, and the men's and women's baths are switched on a daily basis. Both are artificial hot springs, but the quality of the water is different, so be sure to soak in both baths to experience the difference.

SUP

I'm proud of this one too.

SUP stands for "Stand Up Paddleboard," a water sport that has been gaining attention in recent years. The rider stands on a special surfboard floating on the water of a river or ocean, and paddles forward. This sport can be experienced at Michi no Eki Yayoi. The period is from May 1 to October 31. The 90-minute "first time SUP experience" starts at the Bansho River that flows near the station. Inexperienced and experienced riders will be guided through this course for the first time. Once you are able to ride SUP without any problems, you will be issued a SUP card. Once the card is issued, you can try either the "Rental SUP" without a guide or the "Banjo River Downriver Course" with a guide. SUP yoga experience is also available for those who do not have a SUP card. The first SUP experience is 5,000 yen for one person, 4,000 yen for two or more people (up to 10 people) for high school students and older, and 3,000 yen for junior high school students and younger.
