Nakayama Oto (Yanagawa City)

This is the place to see the wisteria flowers illuminated!
Nakayama's giant wisteria, with its beautiful large flower clusters, is a famous tree designated as a prefectural natural monument that is more than 300 years old and is located at Nakayama Kumano Shrine in Yanagawa City.
It is said that it was first planted in the Edo period by a local liquor store owner who brought back seeds from Noda, Osaka, and grew them. Today, it is carefully protected and nurtured by the local preservation society.
The wisteria arch over the stone bridge of the shrine is a spectacular sight and a recommended photo spot. At night, the shrine is lit up and the atmosphere changes dramatically from that of the daytime. The sweet fragrance of the wisteria, the darkness of the evening, and the faint illumination of the lanterns are also tasteful.
Every year, the Nakayama Grand Wisteria Festival is held at the shrine and Tachibana Ikoinomori Park in conjunction with the blooming period.

Wisteria trellis at Karatsu Castle (Karatsu City)

Collaboration of the castle tower and wisteria flowers by the sea
We recommend this place as a photogenic place to see wisteria flowers with Karatsu Castle standing by the sea in the background.
The wisteria is over 100 years old, and the white wisteria at the top of the stone steps and the keep are beautiful together. It is a good place to enjoy both wisteria colors and white wisteria. Don't worry, there is an easy way to get to the wisteria trellis without climbing the stone steps, as there is an elevator.
Incidentally, wisteria is also the flower of Karatsu City, and Maizuru Park in the vicinity of Karatsu Castle is a famous wisteria viewing spot. Please enjoy the beautiful scenery of the sea, castle and wisteria.

Senzai Farm (Usa City)

Extensive wisteria trellises adjacent to tea plantations
Rare in Japan? The flower garden adjacent to the tea plantation has 250 wisteria trees on a 2,400 tsubo wisteria trellis, the largest in Oita Prefecture, and is a popular spring tourist spot in Usa City, where visitors can enjoy the gradation of purple, white and pink wisteria flowers and sweet fragrance during the flowering season. It is also a good place for greedy people to enjoy both new tea and wisteria flowers.
The gradation of the green of the tea fields and the curtain-like gradation of wisteria flowers makes this a truly beautiful spot. Visitors can walk under the wisteria flowers spreading above their heads, so they can fully enjoy the fragrance of the flowers.
Last year, the name was "Fuji Soft", available only on Saturdays and Sundays. This wisteria-colored soft serve ice cream has a sweet aroma of wisteria flowers. I would like to try it.

Wake Park (Kirishima City)

Place associated with Wake no Kiyomaro
Here is a popular early summer wisteria flower spot in Kirishima City, the wisteria trellis in Wake Park.
In 2000, 100 wisteria seedlings of 23 varieties donated by the town of Wake, Okayama Prefecture, were carefully nurtured by local residents, and after 25 years, they have grown into a magnificent wisteria flower tourist spot that attracts many visitors from inside and outside the prefecture.
The name "Wake Park" comes from the fact that Kiyomaro Wake spent time in the area during the Nara period (710-794) and was born in what is now Wake Town, Okayama Prefecture. Since Wake Town has a park famous for its wisteria flowers, flower seedlings were given to Makizono Town, Kirishima City, which has a connection to the park.
